What ratio works for a drip coffee maker?

Quick answer

Start with 1:16: for a full two mugs, use 30 g coffee to 480 g water. Use a medium grind (table-salt texture). If coffee tastes weak, grind a bit finer first; if bitter, grind coarser.

Weekday setup that stays consistent

  1. Place paper filter and rinse it with hot water.
  2. Add measured grounds (no scoop guessing).
  3. Fill tank with measured water and run brew.
  4. Swirl carafe once before pouring so flavor is even.

Common questions

Can I use pre-ground supermarket coffee? Yes — choose "medium grind" for drip and lock ratio first.

Why is office drip coffee bitter? Usually too much coffee for the water or a dirty basket/carafe.

Can drip taste as clean as pour over? Close, but pour over gives more control. See drip vs pour over.
