How much coffee, hot water and ice do I need?
At 1:16 with 240 g total water and 30% ice, use 15 g coffee, 168 g hot water and 72 g ice. Ice is included in the 240 g, not added on top. Change all three inputs above to plan your own batch.
The formula is coffee = total water ÷ ratio; ice = total water × ice percentage; hot water = total water − ice. The calculator rounds coffee to 0.1 g and water to whole grams, keeping hot water + ice equal to the rounded total.
Brew over ice
Rinse the paper and discard the rinse water. Weigh ice into a suitable server, add coffee to the dripper, then brew with the calculated hot water over that ice. Follow your brewer and server instructions for hot liquids and cooling. Stir, check the remaining ice and taste. Additional ice in the glass adds dilution.
These are input weights, not an exact finished drink volume: grounds retain liquid, and ice may remain unmelted. Use the V60 guide for technique; its hot recipe's times are not a guarantee for this reduced-water brew. If you want a long cold extraction, use the cold brew calculator.
Source and starting values
Kurasu's iced recipe (opens in a new tab) uses 150 g hot water and 70 g ice. Our 1:16 and 30% defaults are an editorial adaptation, not that recipe or our physical testing. Adjust by taste and record what you actually brewed.
